What is Freemium hosting

Referring to a hosting provider as a "freemium" means, it's a standard paid hosting company that offers a free limited version of its service.  The free option is great, if you wish spend no money to get your website up. You have to be aware though, that you will not have some useful options and tools as with a paid service, and your bandwidth may be very limited. So, it is not recommended for anything except the most basic websites.

A bit different way to offer freemium hosting has been chosen by Google App Engine, a dynamic runtime environment for Python web applications using Google's geo-distributed architecture.

Google App Engine is a freemium hosting model with paid upsells which are available for website applications exceeding approximately
 5 million pageviews per month. This resource quota approximately matches the Google Analytics 5 million pageviews. Customers may easily
 exceed this limit, if they run an AdWords advertising campaign with a daily budget of $1 or more. However the Google App Engine service plans
 to offer pricing and service level agreements for additional resources, based on a pay-as-you-go structure, once this service leaves
 its limited 10,000-person preview period.

The quotas are only a guideline and may be changed at any time as the service is clearly still a beta version.
